2010 May: U-Turn on Housing

30th May 2010 (Press)  U-turn on number of houses to be built

This Week the Cheadle Post & Times (Wed 26th May 2010) reported that SMDC were set to make a U-turn on the number of houses being built in Cheadle, with 'Mobberley Farm' and 'Cheadle East' likely to be abandoned as potential sites, going on to state 'housing targets would instead be met through small scale projects in villages across the Staffordshire Moorlands'. Sybil Ralphs acknowledged that 'Cheadles Infra-structure and amenities were inadequate to accommodate the number of houses envisaged'. and indicated reviewing a range of options including 'reducing the number of houses proposed for Cheadle and increasing the housing allocation for the rural areas'. We have no further details at this time of what is proposed and how Cheadle will be affected.

The next SMDC meeting is 6:30PM on June the 10th at Moorlands House (Leek). We believe this is a public meeting and residents can attend to listen to the proceedings and the new proposals.

While Cheadle Unite are pleased that a very significant U-turn appears to be on the table, the term "ecstatic if the latest plan goes ahead" reported by the paper was not stated by Greg Powell, not least because we don't have the full details of what exactly is being proposed and how it may affect the town and residents at this time.

Ian Lewis (Cheadle Unite - Chairman) will be attending the meeting (as a member of the public) and we will report back after the meeting. Please attend and support us if you can.
