With less than two weeks before Christmas we are unlikely to be able to consider the proposal before early January. We have been contacted by BBC Radio Stoke and have emailed them with the following (20th Dec 2011)

I hope you are well.

Thank you for calling earlier today regarding housing developments in Cheadle.

I have spoken to some of the Cheadle Unite committee members and they like me have either not yet received anything from SMDC or have not had opportunity to consider the proposals.

So for now we can only make the following statement with short notice, which hopefully you can read out:

Cheadle Unite need time to consider Staffordshire Moorlands Proposals for housing development in the town of Cheadle and will be responding in the new year.

We do however in the meantime hope that Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have and are, taking the opportunity to work with our neighbours in Stoke-on-Trent to encourage much needed re-development of the City.

The failure of the North Staffs Renew project* has left the City with a significant task in tackling derelict housing sites. Sites that can clearly provide affordable housing for our younger generations and where key infrastructure, roads and rail already exist.

Cheadle is willing to accept measured development to meet local business and community needs, but do not want to encourage development of Greenfield sites over the regeneration of Stoke-on-Trent our local and valued City.
